Mosaics!

One of the most anticipated projects of the year has begun at Hillyard. We are making mosaics in 8th grade classes. Students will be using small fragments of glass known as tessarae to create an original design. This is a time intensive project and we hope to be completed with them in 2 weeks. Look for pictures soon!

Still LIfe


Students in 7th grade classes have been comparing and contrasting realistic and abstract art. We drew from observation a "never-ending still life" in both styles of art. For the abstract style of art, we looked at the cubist artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso.

Students study Lichtenstein!

File:Roy Lichtenstein.jpgRoy Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997) was a prominent American pop artist, his work heavily influenced by both popular advertising and the comic book style. After learning about this Pop artist, students utilized the gridded system of drawing to create 18" x 14" drawings of famous comic book heroes. The results were spectacular...
