Mosaics in progress

Students have been enjoying the process of creating mosaics. We receive most of our stained glass from scraps leftover from Broadway High School stained glass projects. Students are able to create works of art from leftovers! The best part for students is getting to cut the glass and wear the fashionable safety goggles.
Check out our progress.

Celtic Carvings

Students in period 1 have been working on dry wall carvings inspired by ancient Celtic designs. We explored the ancient art of illumination as students were asked to create an original design utilizing one of the initials of their name. Dry wall pieces were saved from last years renovation of the school making this project a very budget friendly endeavor!

The most famous example of illumination comes from Ireland. Do you know what the book is called?

Ukrainian Eggs

Art 8 classes had the opportunity to practice the ancient art form of egg decorating from the Ukraine. Students used tools called kistkas to create elaborate designs with wax. They would then dip into colorful dies, add more wax and repeat the dying process. When totally finished with the design, we burned off the wax using a candle flame to reveal the multi-colored design beneath. The results were amazing! Check out the student examples.
