Visual Journals

Instead of the normal sketchbooks this year, we are creating visual journals in 8th grade art. In the journals, we incorporate writing, drawing, collage, paint and more. Students have the opportunity to experiment and express. The beginning results are quite amazing! Keep a look out for more photos of student work throughout the year.

Graffiti...Is it art or vandalism?

We have had an exciting start to the school year here at JFH. We began our discussions in art with the topic "What is art?" We focused on looking at graffiti that exists in our culture and had some great discussions about whether we believe that graffiti is art or not. In the end, we created our own graffiti on our portfolios which will store each person's art work for the year. At the end of the year, we will have an excellent collection of all the things we have learned and created this year

Welcome Back!

Summer was way too short, I'm sure we'd all agree, but I am happy to back. The first few days of school have been great and I believe that this is going to be an awesome year. I am looking forward to working on our visual jounals this year in art 8. If you have the opportunity check out journalfodderjunkies.com. This site will show you some awesome examples of the things we will be attempting! I had the chance to speak to both the guys who produced this site and they are phenomenal.

Mosaics in progress

Students have been enjoying the process of creating mosaics. We receive most of our stained glass from scraps leftover from Broadway High School stained glass projects. Students are able to create works of art from leftovers! The best part for students is getting to cut the glass and wear the fashionable safety goggles.
Check out our progress.

Sixth Grade Art

Ms. Kline's sixth grade art class created symmetrical masks
and had fun creating and eating their color wheels.
